We all have too much stuff, don't we? And sometimes things can get a little messy. But worry not because I'm about to give you some life-saving tips that will help you to make your life more organized and your house will thank you, too!

Ways You Can Declutter Your Kitchen

Picture
We all have way too many appliances in our kitchen that we don't use, but for some reason, we keep them anyway. Here are some tips to help you to have a more organized kitchen.

  • First thing you should do is select all the things that you use and the things that you don't. There isn't a point to keep kitchen appliances that you will never get to use. Also get rid of any cracked mugs, plates or anything that should have been replaced already.
  • Remove everything from the cupboards and have a better sense of how much space you have.
  • Storage boxes will become your best friend from now on. Those plastic babes are fantastic to help you organize your house!
  • If you need more shelves, you can resort to buying a wired under shelf storage organization basket. Those very resourceful baskets can be safely attached to your already fitted shelves, giving you extra space inside your cupboards.
  • If you can put it in a plastic container, then do so, because plastic containers are easy to store and help you to save a ton of space.
  • If you are good at DIY, then consider having plastic storage baskets attached to the inside of your cupboard door to have even more space.
If you have a small kitchen, consider using your walls to hang some of your pans, it gives a very modem look, and it saves space too

Ways To Declutter Your Office

don't stay like that for a long time. With a little bit of organization and a few cute candles or plants, you can make your workplace your new favorite place!

  • Again you should be taking everything out and select what you need to keep and what you don't, so you can have an idea of the space that you have.
  • Separate everything in groups for example: paperwork, books, office supplies, etc.
  • Keep the things that you need daily near your workplace (desk).
  • If possible, go wireless, if you can't tidy up all your cables.
  • Organize your paperwork into folders.
  • Keep your desk clean. You can try to find extra space by adding a shelve above your desk.
  • One of my favorite methods to keep organized in my workplace is using a pegboard and hang some wired baskets to keep things tidy and very handy, plus it makes a beautiful decor to your office.
  • Drawer dividers are also something that can save you lots of space by keeping your drawers super organized.
  • If you are in desperate need of some more space, why not get plastic storage drawers?

Ways To Declutter Your Garage

It seems like everything that you can’t find space for in your house ends up in your garage. But when your garage gets full, where else are you going to put that microwave you no longer need? At some point you will have to deal with that mess, so why not right now?

  • First, you should clear up your schedule for a whole weekend to sort out the problem. Trust me it's going to take time, but it'll be worth it!
  • You will need some preparation for this one, consider buying sturdy shelves and some large plastic containers before you start to declutter.
  • Take everything out, and make a selection of things that you want to keep. It's time to say goodbye to all of those memories that you like to stuff in the garage.
  • After you make a selection of what you are keeping and what you are tossing, then its time to organize things in boxes or shelves. Keep in mind that the heaviest items should be stored at the bottom of the shelf.
  • Try to keep things of the same group in the same box, for example, Christmas decorations and collectives.
  • Maintain it organized. The hardest thing after a deep cleaning is to maintain it tidy, which you can do by making sure everything is where it's supposed to be.
  • You can also call a junk removal service like the guys at Junk Gentlemen. They are Fresno's #1 Junk Removal Service. we love their work.

An organized house will make your life so much easier. So clean up your schedule and have fun decluttering your beautiful home!

Some Of Our Favorite Things To Do In OC

One of our favorite places to visit in Orange County California. This idyllic Southern California beach County is a wonderful place to bring kids and has plenty of fun in the sun for everyone to enjoy. Here are a couple of things you should be sure to check out if you ever find yourself in Orange County and are looking for some adventure.

Historic Orange Circle

The location of many of our favorite movies (That Thing You Do, and others) the Orange Circle is one of the most beautiful and quaint cities in the county. Boasting Chapman College and many lovey restaurants, the orange circle are one of our favorite places to go antique shopping and stop to get some pizza. If you are ever in the area we love the bar Paul’s. It is a bit of a dive bar but has a charm that takes me back to the ’80s, back to my hay day of college

Laguna Beach

Picture
The one from the TV show! Burt really laguna beach has some of the most stunning landscapes in the whole of southern California. It’s no wonder that this area quickly became very expensive to live in and thus has a bit of a snobby vibe if you don’t know where to go for the best stuff. We definitely recommend the beach locally called “Thousand Steps” because Laguna is high in elevation most of the beaches are down a cliff and can only be accessed by taking long stairs all the way down to the sand. Thousand Steps is one of our Favorite spots because of its relative reclusive it usually not too crowded. And if you have ever been to a southern California beach, then you know how crowded it can become. Just be sure you are ready for the long walk back up the thousand steps when you are ready to go home! Laguna Beach is one of our favorite spots to go to also for the Sawdust Festival, just be prepared for outrageous prices

The OC Fair

Picture
Another place to go if you are in the mood for some kitschy fun is the local Orange County fair. While this fair has all of the normal things you could imagine from a fair there is also a sort of swap meet in the other parking lot where you can buy all sorts of fun and goofy items like hand-woven rugs and sculptures that were made by peoples small businesses. And if you need to go to the restroom, don’t worry, because they have plenty of Porta Potties in the back that you can use to relieve yourself.

Disney Land

What best of Orange county list would be complete if I didn’t mention Disneyland! That’s right, on top of the beautiful beaches and historic cities, there is always the lovely (and expensive) Disneyland! Now there are thousands of articles online about Disney so I don’t need to go into a ton of depth here, but suffice it to say that if you are looking for some fun rides and to get down with Micky and the game, then Disneyland is your best bet. But if you are more of a local then you might want to check our Knotts Berry Farm, that’s more of the local spot. But that is a subject for a different blog post altogether!

Talking Pianos with Our Son-In-Law

5/7/2020

Picture
We went over to visit my niece the other day and stay at her beautiful country home in Fort Worth Texas. There, she and her husband raise a few dogs and chickens and have just the most wonderful home. Her Husband Shane is a local piano tuner and we got to talking about some of the old instruments they have in their garage and that lead us down a very interesting rabbit hole about the differences between grand pianos and baby grand pianos. So I wanted to through together a post about this because I found it very interesting.

The first thing that you should know is that both pianos have eighty-eight keys standard so they don’t skip out on any octaves and they can both be played into a full spectrum of sound. The second thing to keep in mind is that both grand and baby grand pianos have the same standard width. So really the only difference between the two is the length. The part of the piano that goes behind the keys. Or from the keys to the back of the piano. Now, this is where the differences start to change the pianos dramatically. Because there is not just two sizes for grand pianos. There are nine-foot grand’s, concert grands, and even very small “grand” pianos that are only four or so feet in length and could easily fit inside of person’s small apartment!

So this got me thinking about an experiment that we could perform on Shane’s different size pianos that he had in his garage. And to see if I could tell the difference in a blind test without knowing which one was which.

Picture
Shane said i would be able to tell right away what difference was because the size of the strings plays such an important role in the sound quality and size of the sound that is made by the instrument. One major difference, he said, was that the length of the strings would make a much “fuller” sound because of the overtones you can get from the longer strings. But interestingly, you can actually get a much softer and more delicate sound from the larger size pianos than the smaller sized pianos because of not only the length of the strings but the length of the hammers and all of the moving mechanisms inside the piano. With the proper technique, a large grand piano can sound much more gentle than a short baby grand.

This extra color in the sound is caused by the longer strings having more surface area to pick up the vibration of the note you hit and these vibrations can also slightly shake the strings that are in tune with the not you just played. Creating that full and warm sound that you hear when a large grand piano is played. The larger the housing and length of the strings the more opportunity for that note’s sound to vibrate those other strings and give a great overtone sound.

So we decided to have some fun and play the two pianos for me and my husband and see if we could tell the difference. And after he had explained to us the difference, we could tell immediately! It was incredible how different the two pianos sounded when played with that knowledge in mind. Really great demonstrations and we had a lovely time visiting them and talking shop with Shane about grand pianos and his Piano Tuning Business. Check him out if you are ever in the area, he really knows his stuff!

Colorado Springs is home to one of the countries highest zip lines, and it is an experience that you must not miss if you visit. Gods Market And Cafe

Picture
One of our favorite spots to eat is God’s Market and Cafe. this restaurant is unique in that it also hosts cooking classes and drink tastings that make for great get-togethers for friends looking for a more hands-on experience. On to that their food and cocktails are wonderful. We are particular fans of their avocado toast. Its a perfect lite breakfast for someone who is on the go and still wants to get going for the day. But if you are in the mood for something a little more indulgent, their Market Benedict is heavenly as well. Located conveniently in the center of the city, God’s is a great place for family and friends to gather together and have a great meal in a cozy environment.

Salt Grass Steak House

Picture
If you are looking for a great steakhouse, then look no further than Salt Grass. This old school western style grill house is a blast from the past. Serving great selections of meat and appetizers it is one of the great American steak houses in Colorado Springs. And if you are craving seafood, they have you covered too. They have one of the best surf and turf in the whole city and we personally love they’re grilled shrimp as an add-on to their already amazing Gulf Coast Steak. They also use a professional hood cleaning service, so you know that their kitchens are always in tip-top shape.  Check them out at their location for some great bbq and steak.

A couple of tips for at-home garage door repair

2/1/2020

Picture
Today we took a break from our travels to visit mu nephew and his wife in Fresno. They live in a lovely little cottage home on the outskirts of the city proper. We having lunch with them when he mentioned that their garage door was having some issues and not closing properly. Good thing I used to work for a garage repair service in my younger days and was able t impart some wisdom on him. This got me thinking about making a blog post about a few tips and tricks that have picked up over the years of repairing garages and driveways. I thought that this would be a good opportunity for me to impart some wisdom on a younger generation about how they can go about fixing their own garage door when the situation calls for it. So here it goes. Here my top tips for garage repair.

1.If the Door Doesn’t Work the First thing to check is the sensor

One of the first thins to malfunction in a garage door that has an electric door opening mechanism is the sensor. Sometimes in a dusty garage, this sensor can get covered in dust and simply not work because it senses something is in front of it (dust) and therefore will not shut the door. Or if this is the first time setting up the sensor it could be a simple misplacement issue. Sometimes these sensors have very delicate set up processes and if they get knocked or moved accidentally they could become misaligned and stop working

2. It Might Be the Garage Door Opener

Sometimes things that seem difficult are actually quite simple. Like changing the batteries out in the garage door remote. I can’t tell you how many times I was called in to repair a person garage door thinking that I would be doing some heavy lifting for the day, only to discover that their garage door remote simply had run out of batteries. This is a simple solution that should probably be checked first, hence why it is on the top of my list.
Picture

3. If you do need to lift something heavy get help

This one is super important. If you don’t want to call a professional garage door repair service, then at least have someone come over and lend you a hand. People can get seriously hurt trying to lift heavy garage doors all by themselves and if you are planning on unscrewing anything or taking anything apart, then you definitely want to call over one of your more burly friends to help you out before you get yourself in over you head

4. Lubrication always helps

Another important detail that might be overlooked, especially if you live in a dry climate like my Nephew in Fresno CA is the lubrication of your moving parts in the garage door mechanism. If you don’t have a proper lubrication, you might be hearing al sorts of terrible noises when you go to open or close your garage door.
